Financial Reporting Accountant (Technical Accountant/ Sr. Technical Accountant) - Berkshire Hathaway Energy

 This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
 
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
This position is responsible for; assistance in preparation of the Berkshire Hathaway Energy ("BHE") monthly financial close and consolidation; supporting the information technology functions for BHE parent, corporate entities and business units; preparing financial analyses and research as requested; preparing internal financial reports; assisting with Berkshire Hathaway Inc. reporting requirements and compliance; accounting and reporting functions for the corporate Canadian entities and other subsidiary companies as requested; accounting and reporting functions for the BHE Foundation; and supporting the planning and external reporting departments.
 
Assists the monthly BHE consolidation process and assists in preparation of the monthly consolidated financial statement package in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for internal use. Assists with the consolidated budget reconciliation between HFM and the planning system.
 
Supports the maintenance of information technology systems, including; Oracle general ledger system, Hyperion Financial Management system; intercompany billing system; and budgeting systems. Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of information system as requested. Provide management with timely, accurate and meaningful information allowing them to better administer their areas of responsibility.  
 
Assists in the general accounting of the BHE parent company, including intercompany transactions and budgets. 
 
Provides support to the business units, including: responding to inquiries and providing information on intercompany activities; support to regulated business units with federal and state regulatory filings and data requests, and support on accounting and reporting issues.
 
Assists with Berkshire Hathaway Inc. required submissions and compliance issues, including among other items: monthly, quarterly and annual financial information; specific financial schedules as requested from Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and governmental survey information for the BHE organization.
 
Assists in financial report development, management and maintenance with the Hyperion Financial Management system.
 
Responsible for the financial information and accounting processes for corporate entities, including the Canadian entities. Responsibilities include, among other duties: daily transactions, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements; intercompany transactions; establishment and maintenance of general ledgers; foreign exchange calculations; and annual budgets and ten year forecasts. Ensures financial information is accurate.
 
Responsible for the financial information and accounting processes for the BHE Foundation. Responsibilities include, among other duties: daily transactions, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements; establishment and maintenance of general ledgers; and annual budgets. Ensures financial information is accurate.
 
Provides support to the external reporting department as necessary. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual support schedules for external reporting requirements.
 
Supports development of project plans, participates with project activities associated with financial accounting.
 
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
 



Qualifications

 Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and certified public accountant preferred. Advanced degree and/or public accounting experience preferred.
 
Three years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience is required.

Six years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience is required for the Senior position.

Proficient in the use of accounting systems and software: Excel, Oracle, Access, Word, etc.

Experience with Hyperion preferred.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
