BTC Teen Center AmeriCorps Activity Specialist

The Vermont Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps (VYDC) program places AmeriCorps members throughout Vermont to promote hope, justice, and well being for all Vermont youth and families. The Washington County Youth Service Bureau's Basement Teen Center is one of the sites with which VYDC places AmeriCorps members.

The Washington County Youth Service Bureau’s Basement Teen Center (BTC) provides engaging & impactful opportunities for youth in Washington County, and is a free, safe place for youth to gather and participate in programming that encourages positive growth and resilience.

The AmeriCorps Activity Specialist plans, implements, and supervises programs and drop-in at the Basement Teen Center. Service focuses on teaching youth to cook healthy meals, creating opportunities for physical activities, civic engagement, community service and creative expression, as well as managing outreach for the BTC. Mornings are spent in the office researching and planning and afternoons are spent in the BTC engaging with youth, building rapport through activities like ping-pong, video/board games, art, music, community service, civic discussions, and sports. We run a sex-ed/healthy relationships program that the member will be trained in and co-lead with the site supervisor.
