Description
USARIEM is an internationally recognized research center of excellence for Warfighter performance science and its useful applications. The 50-year old+ Institute functions as a world-class laboratory for environmental medicine, physiology, health, performance and nutrition research. Research studies are conducted by scientists from four research divisions, working in concert with one another, as well as in collaboration with other world-class scientists from government, industry and academia. Research divisions are: Biophysics & Biomedical Modeling (BBMD), Military Nutrition (MND), Military Performance (MPD), Thermal & Mountain Medicine (TMMD). https://www.usariem.army.mil/

As part of the real-time physiological monitoring for injury prevention, the participant will have the opportunity to collaborate with investigators in the development of research protocols and the coordination of approvals for collecting field research data from wearable monitors from two field research studies. One study aims to validate an algorithm that predicts acute mountain sickness and the other study aims to develop algorithms to predict the likelihood of exertional heat injury. Under the guidance of the principal investigator the participant will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of research protocol development and coordination, which would include: protocol writing, regulatory compliance, personnel and equipment planning. Additionally, this opportunity includes field data collection which will aid in the development of skills related to data management, analysis and report writing.
