Harbor Homes-Development VISTA

Harbor Homes, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization in NH whose mission is to create and provide quality residential, health care, and supportive services—in short, a continuum of supports for individuals and families to escape and avoid homelessness. Harbor Homes is NH’s largest builder and supplier of supportive housing, and also offers the state’s only stand-alone federally qualified health center for the homeless, which provides low-to-no cost primary, behavioral, and dental health care. Complementing housing and healthcare are comprehensive economic and social supports, including employment and substance misuse treatment. The latter suite of programs is having significant success combatting Greater Nashua’s devastating opioid crisis. Headquartered in Nashua, the state’s second largest city, Harbor Homes has 51 programs that serve 5,000 community members annually.

Under guidance of seasoned professionals, the VISTA Member will have the opportunity to complete a range of development projects for the healthcare arm of Harbor Homes. Short-term projects will gain VISTA Members valuable experience in the nonprofit development, including grant-writing, donor cultivation, and events management. The VISTA member will help • Identify and develop relationships with potential new funders • Assist with planning and development of special events • Write, edit, and package grant applications • Ensure reporting requirements for grants and funding are achievable and may be successfully reported upon completion of the grant term. VISTA Members should have • Experience in communications, preferably in a nonprofit environment • Ability to develop projects independently, with team support • Passion for health and human services • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite • Above-average oral and written abilities • A great writing sample.

Families in Transition-New Horizons (FIT-NH), a nonprofit organization located in Manchester, Concord and Dover, New Hampshire, was founded in 1991 in response to the growing number of homeless individuals and families in the greater Manchester area and throughout the state. Since its inception, FIT has been committed to providing only the most innovative, and effective interventions specifically designed to help homeless individuals and families reach beyond the cycle of homelessness to lead healthy and successful lives.
