Families in Transition-Volunteer and In-Kind VISTA

Families in Transition-New Horizons (FIT-NH) is a entrepreneurial, forward thinking, nonprofit organization that provides hunger relief, emergency shelter, safe affordable housing, and supportive services to individuals and families in need, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. The organization has over 150 staff, five to seven AmeriCorps VISTAs, 23 properties, and 240 housing units in Manchester, Concord, Dover, and Wolfeboro, NH. FIT-NH provides an array of housing options including shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, and recovery housing. We typically receive over 5,000 requests for assistance and we are only able to help about 600 of them, and typically half are children. One of our biggest and fastest growing programs is our Willows Substance Use Treatment Center which provides Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient Services to both women and men. These programs help to address the serious opioid health crisis in New Hampshire.

This fast-paced position requires a self-starter, who can multitask, juggle multiple projects at once, and has excellent communication skills. The Volunteer and In-Kind VISTA will be critical in the development of our newly merged volunteer and in-kind program, by researching and focusing on supporting new systems that allow the volunteer and in-kind programs to accommodate more volunteers and donations each year. The VISTA will also continue to grow our outreach efforts in the community through individual outreach and event planning and support. All these aspects of the role eventually translate into better support of the low-income and homeless families and individuals in our programs. This position is ideal for someone looking to experience multiple aspects of non-profit management - from volunteer recruitment, fundraising, and event planning, to database management and creating strategic plans.
