Farm Team Herdsman - Donor

Position Purpose: General care of material and property provided by the customer (donors and semen) while under Trans Ova Genetics control. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with loading and unloading donors and calves
  • Assists with chute work including processing, backgrounding, aspirations, transfers, and pregnancy checks.
  • Provides general daily care to donor cattle including observing animals for health.
  • Sorts cattle for heats, syncs, and pregnant cow to go home.
  • Loads, unloads, and assists with transportation of cattle.
  • Synchronizes cows.
  • Removes dead livestock.
  • Assist with sorting and loading wean calves for clients
  • Generates sorting and synchronization lists
  • Assists with yard maintenance including but not limited to manure hauling, snow removal, box scraping and fencing.
  • Keep donors clean, comfortable, and free from stress, disease, and injury.
  • Meet nutrient requirements of donors.
  • Maintain identification and location of donors.
  • Provide communication of donor issues to the client service representative and team leader.
  • Provide reproductive management including:
  • Hormone injections.
  • Heat Detection.
  • Insemination.
  • Palpations.
  • Maintain facilities:
  • Clean pens
  • Repairs and Maintenance
  • Keep facilities picked up and orderly.
  • Assist calving herdsmen when needed.
  • Maintain a professional image:
  • Maintain a presentable appearance.
  • Donor information given should be kept positive and confidential.
  • Provide proper care of client semen:
  • Data entry of incoming semen.
  • Data entry of semen used.
  • Maintain level of liquid nitrogen tanks.
  • Maintains a professional imagine reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position.
  • Follows Trans Ova’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Requirements:
Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Working conditions are primarily an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures, wind, and muddy conditions. Animals, especially if handled improperly, can cause injury. Ability to be on feet walking, or standing for long periods of time. 

Other skills/experience:
Prior cattle handling experience is helpful.
Must be good with numbers.
Must have legible penmanship.
Computer experience preferred.
