School Psychologist

COUNSELING DEPARTMENT OPENINGS for School Year 2019-2020

School Psychologist
The School Psychologist evaluates and promotes the cognitive, social-emotional, and mental health needs of our students so that they can excel in the classroom. The School Psychologist works closely with the Reading Specialist and the Dean of Student Learning and Support to assess and facilitate the learning needs of our students.

Responsibilities Include:
1. Conduct
formal and informal cognitive assessments, social/emotional and mental health evaluations of students
2. Collaborate with the school counselor and school social worker to determine counseling needs of students
3. Provide supportive counseling to individual students and short-term counseling to families
4. Provide critical intervention to students in crisis, and when necessary make referrals for outside therapeutic services
5. Participate collaboratively as a member of the Special Needs Assessment Team together with Deans, counseling staff, interventionists, CWSP representative and Principal to develop strategies to support the social-emotional growth, behavior, and learning needs of students
6. Analyze standardized test scores to identify students who may need academic assistance outside of the classroom
7. Collaborate with the Reading Specialist and Dean of Student Learning and Support to develop individualized academic and accommodation plans for students as needed
8. Work with faculty, Reading Specialist, and Dean to monitor progress of students
9. Serve as a liaison with outside therapists and other service providers working with our students
10. Maintain professional records of assessment and sessions with the students

REQUIREMENT:
• Master’s degree in Psychology
• School Psychologist Certification from New York State’s Department of Education
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus
• Prior experience as a School Psychologist with a similar student population is
preferred
