We have a network of intermodal locations, a large fleet consisting of 1,500 power units and 5,000 trailers, a full service logistics division, and warehouses that fulfill distribution needs.
Cowan Logistics, a division of Cowan Systems, LLC, serves as a freight brokerage, and is seeking motivated individuals looking to start their career with a growing organization in a steady industry. The Logistics Management Trainee role is an exciting new opportunity within our logistics division that will allow participants to learn the business from the bottom up, and gain the skills necessary to successfully build a career in sales, operations and management. We provide thorough training, both on the job and in the classroom, and participants will have room for growth and advancement within the organization, as well as a competitive base salary with an uncapped compensation structure.
Summary of Position:
The Logistics Management Trainee is an exciting new position within Cowan Logistics. During the initial 3 months of training, participants will be exposed to all sides of the logistics business and be prepared to become a Logistics Sales Manager or an Operations Manager. Employees will learn about Cowan and the supply chain industry from the ground up and will gain the skills necessary for success in their new position, as well as gain valuable management skills. After the training period, participants will enter their role of Logistics Sales Manager or Operations Manager and begin managing their book of business full time.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Build and nurture partner relationships with carrier contacts
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients
  • Negotiate rates with carriers to achieve optimal margins
  • Ability to make phone calls and spend in excess of six hours on the telephone every day
  • Update and maintain Logistics Management System
  • Able to work both independently and within a team
  • Prospect new carriers to add to Cowan’s existing carrier network
  • Perform analytical and logistics planning
  • Proactively identify problems and implement effective solutions
  • Provide follow-up customer satisfaction with clients as needed
