Christel House Schools is accepting applications for a High School Math Teacher at the Christel House Academy South Location, for the 2019-20 Academic Year. This position is an opportunity to co-teach with a partner teacher for Algebra 1 and 2. It will be a small class environment. Christel House Schools is a growing network of high performing charter schools dedicated to serving low-income, urban students in Indianapolis. Teachers at Christel House Schools earn a year-end bonus based on student attainment and have considerable freedom to be creative.
 
FLSA: Full-Time; Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
 
JOB SUMMARY: 
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Integrate technology into the instructional program.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Prepare classroom for class activities.
  • Use a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources to present material in an interesting, stimulating and effective manner.
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish ongoing communication with parents.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities
  • Other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Indiana Teaching License in subject area
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Competency in using technology in the classroom setting
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
