Christel House Schools is accepting applications for a High School Math Teacher at the Christel House Academy South Location, for the 2019-20 Academic Year. This position is an opportunity to co-teach with a partner teacher for Algebra 1 and 2. It will be a small class environment. Christel House Schools is a growing network of high performing charter schools dedicated to serving low-income, urban students in Indianapolis. REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Develop lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Integrate technology into the instructional program.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Prepare classroom for class activities.
- Use a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources to present material in an interesting, stimulating and effective manner.
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
- Establish ongoing communication with parents.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
- Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities
- Other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Indiana Teaching License in subject area
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Competency in using technology in the classroom setting
- Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
