School Garden & Sustainability Coordinator (SY19-20)

The School Garden and Sustainability Coordinator will be responsible for connecting students, together with the community, to nature. They will support our EL model by encouraging student social-emotional growth through hands-on activities with our school garden and market. They will serve as an on-site naturalist, managing the garden resources and developing relationships with students, families, and staff that stimulate observation and involvement in the outdoor setting. Furthermore, the coordinator will support our mission of sustainability by engaging the community around issues related to food justice and sustainability and furthering the school’s sustainability mission through strategic assessment, visioning and action planning, fundraising support, and the development of sustainability programs.
 
The School Garden Coordinator will report primarily to the Operations Director and with the Extended Day Director as it relates to extended programming support and and will work in collaboration with the Cooking & Gardening Teacher, Food Initiative and Service Manager, along with teachers, and parent volunteers.
 
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent experience. One to three years experience gardening or community education required. Minimum of one season of experience in a gardening/farming/outdoor education position. Knowledge about sustainability systems (i.e composting, urban vegetable gardening, food procurement, etc.) necessary. Bilingual capacity and experience in an urban school setting preferred.
