Director-Nursing In Training (Full Time)

Job Description


The Director of Nursing in Training (DONIT) is provided an intensive orientation and training experience for the position of Director of Nursing in a Genesis HealthCare Center. The length of the Program depends on the skill set of the DONIT. It will last for a period of no more than twelve (12) months. The Program provides management training utilizing clinical, human resource, financial, and leadership modules. This experience will assist in skills development, as well as develop the candidate's abilities to direct, plan, and coordinate services provided to the resident. In addition, the clinician will develop skills to interpret policy and regulations to all levels of personnel. Education to evaluate the quality of services to the residents, and to ensure provision of inservice training programs for nursing personnel, will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Interacts with center Director of Nursing and other Center managers to develop and implement the philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of nursing practice in accordance with the goals of the Genesis organization and the individual center.
2. Works to develop a knowledge base of Genesis policies and protocols which impact outcomes.
3. Learns to evaluate resident care outcomes by working with the interdisciplinary team.
4. Develops managerial skills by participating in a variety of care delivery settings.
5. Develops financial management skills via budgetary process, payroll analysis, reimbursement issues, and staffing ratios.
6. Establishes a knowledge base of state and federal regulatory process, quality indicators and quality measures.
7. Establishes a knowledge base of certification agencies, i.e. JCAHO
8. Develops a knowledge of the relationship of the MDS to Medicare, Medicaid, PPS, and RUGS.
9. Learns the characteristics of each payer source, and the implications of each on the care delivery process
10. Participates in implementation of the Quality Improvement Process Process, based on Nursing standards/job descriptions.
11. Evaluates the current QI process as a measure of validating compliance and adherence to goals and standards of care.
12. Establishes and facilitates employer/employee relations by working through specific employee relations challenges, and participating in center retention team and related programs
13. Educates various levels of staff to provide care and services which meet or exceed resident expectations.
14. Works with other members of the center team and Area representatives to recruit, select and retain qualified nursing staff.
15. Conducts interviews and develops recruitment plan to develop and implement a master staffing plan based on resident needs and Nursing service goals and standards.
16. Develops skills which facilitate effective management and create a work climate which promotes high quality work life.
17. Learns to encourage the highest level of functioning of the resident through utilization and coordination of Genesis Policies and Procedures, and of Genesis network entities
18. Seeks opportunities to establish community and academic relationships which promote the positive image of long-term care.
19. Learns to develop a cost-effective system for supply management.
20. Evaluates the process to assure that principles of infection control are followed to prevent the spread of communicable disease from both residents and employees.
21. Participates in the strategic planning process for the center
22. Performs all other duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS: 
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. The Director of Nursing in Training must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, college or university with current registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
2. A BSN is preferred for this position. If the candidate does not currently have a BSN, pursuit of the degree within a reasonable period of time is strongly encouraged.
3. A minimum of four years full-time or equivalent clinical experience with increasing responsibility is required.
4. Long Term Care experience preferred, or per State regulations
