Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:

Position:
· Prepare and teach all academic courses and special programs in the TFT curriculum including topics such as forestry, wildlife, biology, geology, and water quality to a primary target audience is K-12 school groups.
· Present courses and special programs in a knowledgeable, stimulating, engaging, and objective manner resulting in student participation and an effective learning experience.
· Work collaboratively with rest of staff to develop and regularly update inquiry based Next Generation Science Standard curriculum.
· Assess student learning based on best practices for student assessment.
· Operate all equipment related to course and program presentation including vehicles with trailers and school buses (after obtaining Commercial Driver’s License).
· Ensure participant safety at all times
· Required to work some nights and weekends as schedule demands
· Contact local resorts, libraries, museums, and other organizations to schedule public outreach programming for youth and families, especially in summer months.
· Youth and Family Program Coordinator
o Coordinate all public youth and family programs, including summer SEEK (8-12), Junior SEEK (4-7), and Family Nature Programs (all ages), as well as possible Winter and Spring Break Camps and year-round Family Nature Programming.
o Create engaging programming for public youth and family programs and maintain program equipment and materials. Assists with the delivery of these programs.
· Other duties will include assisting with curriculum development, handling of live
animals, and other duties as assigned.
· Teaching: 75%. Other duties: 25%.
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in field of natural resources, biology, education or related field is ideal, equivalent experience is also considered. Master’s degree is preferred.
· At least 5 years’ experience in science education or related field.
· Strong knowledge and understanding of natural resources.
· Experience and working knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards.
· Ability to facilitate inquiry-based lessons in an outdoor setting.
· Ability to teach various natural resource and environmental science topics to a variety of audiences with a focus on K-12 students.
· Positive attitude.
· High sense of professionalism and strong team player.
· Good organizational skills and self-motivated.
· Valid driver’s license and able to earn a CDL (for driving school bus) within 8 weeks of employment.
· Valid Responding to Emergencies or Medical Emergency Responder certification or willingness to obtain within 8-12 weeks of employment.
· Willingness to regularly work nights and weekends.
· Ability to work efficiently on Mac computer systems and Microsoft Office programs (examples: excel, word, and power point)
· Ability to manage a group of students (30+ at a time)
· Organization skills, self-motivation and interest in growth within Trees For Tomorrow
· Ability to walk 5 miles per day with a 10lb pack over rough terrain
· Ability to lift 25 lbs. overhead
· Ability to drive a 15-passenger van with a canoe trailer
· Willingness to interact with live program animals, and animal artifacts such as skulls, pelts, and other taxidermy
