AmeriCorps Immigration Paralegal

Summary
Join the TRII Team as an Immigration Paralegal through the New American Integration Program (NAIP) of AmeriCorps. The NAIP-AmeriCorps member will assist TRII’s legal team in providing
naturalization and immigration services.

The Right to Immigration Institute (TRII, pronounced "tree") is the only group in the U.S. actively empowering students to represent people in asylum, naturalization, and status adjustment cases. Since 2018, TRII has assisted over 125 clients with their immigration cases and has trained over 60 students. The TRII team works closely with a diverse community to ensure that no one must face the immigration process alone.

Responsibilities
• Filling out Forms N-400 for TRII citizenship applicant clients
• Scheduling appointments with TRII citizenship applicant clients
• Supporting TRII’s immigration legal services program
• The member may support TRII at community events and workshops
• The member may work with TRII in building legal capacity through volunteer recruitment

Qualifications
• Legal experience is highly encouraged.
• Members who wish to succeed at TRII must be prepared to work collaboratively, ask a lot of
questions, and be open to working with a new nonprofit.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Interest in and commitment to national and community service
• Experience working with diverse populations
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 17 years of age or older
• Must be a US Citizen, US National or Legal Permanent Resident
• Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings
through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide
criminal history registry both in Massachusetts and your state of residence upon application to
our program, and a fingerprint-based FBI check

The NEW AMERICAN INTEGRATION PROGRAM (NAIP) is an AmeriCorps program
administered by the MIRA Coalition, in partnership with English for New Bostonians. Up to 30 NAIP
members will be placed at various community-based organizations across Massachusetts to address barriers to economic empowerment among immigrants and refugees by focusing their service on job readiness training (including ESOL instruction) and/or citizenship services (including application assistance and civics instruction). Additional add-on services include volunteer coordinator and community service support.
