Practice Development Specialist - West Chester, Pennsylvania

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Practice Development Specialist functions as an expert practitioner, consultant, educator and facilitator for all nursing staff at multiple locations focusing on assuring the highest quality care and clinical outcomes through the following Center-specific approaches:
* Nursing Orientation,
* Nursing Knowledge Proficiency,
* Nursing Practice and Competencies Development, Evaluation and Maintenance,

Key to this role is identification of staff learning needs based on direct observation and assessment, monitoring of Center clinical outcomes, and nursing career ladder/career development goals. The DPS implements programs and evaluates learner responses and Center outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Orientation:
1.1 Prepares and assigns mentors for new nursing staff to support individualized orientation period.
1.2 Provides oversight of the nursing orientation and mentoring program for all licensed staff.
1.3 Develops, implements and evaluates learner-specific bedside coaching and assessment to determine learner mastery and application of orientation content.
2. Nurse Education:
2.1 Develops education programs in response to assessments of staff needs and teaches staff current, evidence-based patient care and center practices;
2.2 Performs rounds on units to:
2.2.1 Review clinical issues and monitor/observe to identify care delivery/clinical skills educational needs;
2.2.2 Assist nurses in identifying change in resident condition and implementing appropriate follow through;
2.2.3 Identify clinical educational needs of nursing staff;
2.2.4 Provide education through demonstration and return demonstration for specific skills/procedures.
2.3 Utilizes Learning Management System to schedule, record and track education;
2.4 Supports implementation of nursing policies and procedures;
2.5 Oversees and coordinates the implementation and education for all nursing programs and facilitates the connection with appropriate Area and Corporate nursing resources (e.g., Wound Specialists, etc.)
2.6 Coordinates delivery of programs with PDS colleagues; 
2.7 Develops an annual education calendar to include Company and State/Federal mandatory in-services within the Learning Management System;
3. Competency Evaluation and Maintenance:
3.1 Assists in evaluation of performance of new nursing personnel;
3.2 Performs annual competency testing and evaluation;
3.3 Clinically appraises nursing staff performance to identify areas for education;
4. Performs other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. The Practice Development Specialist must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse (RN) licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
2. Master's Degree Preferred. Bachelor's Degree Required.
3. A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent nursing experience is required and a minimum of two years of nursing experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred.
4. Previous experience teaching adults is required.
5. Must be able to work flexible hours in order to meet with employees working evening and night shifts.
6. Must be able to travel to the assigned buildings with infrequent overnight travel for regional or other meetings.
