The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland, College Park, is now hiring a full-time Graduate Education Coordinator to provide administrative and programmatic support to students, faculty, and staff in START's existing graduate certificate program and to support the development of future graduate programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducting marketing activities for the program in tandem with the communications team and other education team members.
  • Recruiting new students, including providing updates to program marketing materials and hosting informational sessions.
  • Maintenance of program website and other promotional materials, including editing promotional and branding materials.
  • Coordinating the application process for all applicants to the graduate certificate program.
  • Liaising with the Graduate School as needed throughout the application process to ensure applicants have the information and tools they need to complete their applications.
  • Communicating and responding to inquiries from potential applicants about updates to application guidelines and completion of applications
  • Tracking applications and monitoring progress towards completion.
  • Facilitating admissions notifications
  • Overseeing new student orientation including conducting an online orientation event and disseminating welcome materials to all incoming students.
  • Working with students and faculty to ensure compliance with policies and guidelines
  • Tracking all student interactions with the program, including progress through course work.
  • Maintaining student records.
  • Contributing to written evaluation reports as required.
  • Tracking program metrics and reporting out to senior staff as needed and upon request.
  • Working with students and faculty to ensure compliance with policies and guidelines
  • Staying abreast of program and institutional policies and protocols and communicating updates and changes to applicants, students, staff and faculty.
  • Overseeing the hiring of for all program teaching faculty including processing contracts, overloads, etc.
  • Scheduling program courses
  • Maintaining day-to-day administrative activities of the program.
  • Supporting the development of new graduate education programs or initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • At least three years of experience coordinating educational programs or related work experience
  • Experience working in an academic department or admissions office working with both faculty and students

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Prior experience working with graduate students
  • Prior experience working with online programs and educational courses
  • Prior experience developing educational programming for professionals
  • Prior experience with University of Maryland systems (SIS, UAchieve, AppReview, UMEGS, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
To succeed in the position, the successful candidate should be self-directed with a demonstrated ability to organize work effectively and efficiently, paying close attention to detail. This position will require the candidate to: 1) use critical thinking and analytical skills, 2) demonstrate proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications, 3) multi-task and prioritize work, 4) maintain student confidentiality as required by the standards set forth by FERPA; 5) communicate professionally via all modes of communication; 6) exercise standards of professionalism including in appearance, presentation and demeanor; 7) work collaboratively with a small team of education and training staff members, and 8) foster positive relationships with departmental faculty and staff, and other institutional representatives.

Salary:
The position is a salaried, one-year appointment with the potential for extension. The work week consists of 40 hours per week and the salary range is $45,000 to $55,000, commensurate with experience. The person selected for this position will work onsite at START headquarters, will work closely with the Director of Graduate Students and report directly to START’s Program Director for Education and Training.
