Elementary Physical Education Teacher (1.0 FTE)

(KEA Salary Schedule and Grade), 10 Month
Scope of Responsibilities
The Physical Education teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students in physical education utilizing the district approved curriculum. The teacher also performs instructional and related duties as assigned by the building principal and in accordance with District Policies. The teacher maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents and students.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Develops weekly and daily instructional plans utilizing district-approved curriculum
2. Demonstrates teaching strategies that utilize current best practices
3. Ability to adapt lesson plans to accommodate students with disabilities
4. Monitors and evaluates students’ performance utilizing appropriate assessment tools
5. Must complete necessary records correctly and accurately regarding attendance, individual student objectives and grades
6. Teaches individual and team sports utilizing current best practice, knowledge of skills/techniques and the physical capabilities of the students
7. Can select and/or purchase appropriate equipment needed for instruction. Can properly store, inventory, and issue equipment and materials used in the physical education program
8. Confers with students, parents, counselors, and other professionals in resolving student concerns
9. Conducts parent/teacher conferences
10.Utilizes effective behavioral management techniques to provide a safe and orderly, productive learning environment in the physical education settings.
11.Attends building and district wide meetings
12.Communicates effectively with parents, staff, and students both verbally and in writing
13.Ability to teach K-12 PE
14.Ability to effectively utilize and supervise paraprofessionals as assigned to your subject area
15.Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets data related to student achievement specifically physical fitness norms. Ability to effectively communicate the results both verbally and in writing to students, parents, administration, and community groups
16.Ability to referee indoor and outdoor games
Minimum Qualifications
1. Four year degree from an accredited teacher preparation program.
2. Valid Michigan teaching certificate and Physical Education endorsement Physical Education (MB).
3. Experience working in an urban setting.
4. Elementary Certification (ZG).

1. Able to successfully differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners at varying levels.
2. Experience with successful research-based instructional strategies.
3. Exceptional at making connections with various types of students and parents/guardians.
4. Reflective in his/her teaching practice.
5. Flexible and open to change in order to meet the needs of students.
6. Effectively collaborate with grade level building colleagues.
7. Have a commitment to students, parents/guardians, team and staff.
