Scope of Responsibilities
Actively participates as a member of building support teams in order to assist with data, programs, assessments, interventions and problem-solving needs with a primary focus on positive behavior supports. Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team, analyzes and interprets data and participates in the special education identification process.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Participates as a member of the building support teams to assist all students in making academic progress.
2. Uses data based decision making to lead a problem-solving model in dealing with student behavioral concerns in order to improve academic achievement.
3. Consults with principals, staff members and parents/guardians to assist students in making academic and behavioral progress.
4. Aligns goals and objectives from the building team process to meet the needs of students.
5. Reviews, analyzes and revises implementation plans and interventions.
6. Monitors integrity of strategies and plans.
7. Utilizes a variety of assessments to determine the need for special education services.
8. Provides analysis and interpretation of information and data in oral and written reports.
9. Conducts Individualized Educational Planning Team meetings and assists in ongoing review of strategies for students.
10. Explains due process procedures to parents and school staff.
11. Recommends or participates in the development of alternative academic and behavior strategies to general education staff, special education staff and parents.
12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services/Special
Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Certification as a School Social Worker by Michigan Department of Education.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience in leading problem solving teams through data based decision making.
2. Experience in developing academic and behavioral interventions.
3. Experience in data collection, analysis and interpretation.
4. Background in learning and behavior management.
5. Experience with training and monitoring the implementation of a variety of research-based programs.
6. Experience in administering and interpreting a variety of assessments.
7. Ability to develop and to maintain acceptable relationships with school staff.
8. Ability to clearly express ideas and concepts verbally and in writing.
9. Experience in counseling strategies and working with community agencies.
10. Knowledge of Special Education law.
11. Knowledge and experience in identifying students with disabilities.
