Overview


Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Research Associate within the Microbial analysis group.
 
The Research Associate will serve as a scientific leader in the development implementation and validation of immunology and virology assays. Additionally the Research Associate will be responsible for interfacing with internal and external clients for the implementation of assays and the reporting/interpretation of data. The Research Associate will be responsible for the performance of multiple different concurrent scientific projects simultaneously in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories. This position is also responsible for regulatory compliance (FDA GLP, ES&H, etc.), data interpretation, data summary, report writing, and interfacing with investigators who utilize this lab, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
 
The position will develop and oversee hands-on execution of immunology assays and virology assays for assessment of immune response and viral titer and will handle biological specimens in a dynamic research environment that is studying infectious disease immunology, toxicology, and gene therapy. 

Qualifications


Requires a masters degree in a related scientific discipline and a minimum of 2 years demonstrated research experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Candidate must have experience in immunology and virology, including both in vitro and in vivo assessments. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in a regulatory environment.  Experience with flow-cytometry, Elispot and plaque assays is strongly desired. 
Requires a complex demonstrated understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures. Must have the ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments. Must have the ability to gather, analyze and report data.
 
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
 
This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
