Community Enrichment Center Family Engagement VISTA

VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) devote one year of full-time service at nonprofit organizations or local government agencies. They build the capacity of these organizations to develop, manage, and sustain programs to make poverty history. The CEC Family Engagement VISTA will identify current learning conditions, implement learning strategies, and leverage effective reading instruction to improve literacy and raise reading levels of children. The VISTA will work with CEC staff to design and implement specific best practice activities to successfully promote, engage, and educate neighbors in CEC Services. Major duties include:
  •  Research best practice after school and summer program activities for at risk homeless children and families living in poverty.
  • Create, coordinate and implement activity curriculum of new projects for successful engagement.
  • Recruit volunteers and funding partners.
  • Research and implement best practices for successful engagement of young children and parent reading together to break the cycle of poverty in the 2nd generation

Requirements of Service:
·        Must be at least 18 years old, no upper age limit
·        Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
·        Pass a criminal history review
·        Must be able to serve one year (365 days) full time
