In 2018 we introduced Achievement Schools, an effort to focus on students with the highest needs. We seek special teachers for positions at our Achievement Schools. The overarching aim is to give every student a chance to succeed and lead. Our district has had a spike in overall graduation rates to an all-time high of 85.8 percent in the 2017-18 academic year. Our Achievement Schools directive will help guide students to even greater heights.
 
Teachers in Achievement Schools are eligible for pay differential up to $13,000 a year including special incentives. This incentive, called Spark, is designed to spark your interest and spark the minds of the children you’ll inspire. Bonus pay and free or discounted child care are part of the incentives. If you have had experience such as an internship at a high-needs school or a specialized degree in Urban Education, we are especially eager to talk to you!

EXPECTATIONS:

 Experienced teachers are needed to provide classroom instruction for STEM courses to include Mathematics, Business Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Comprehensive Science, Physical Science, Forensic Science, Computer Electronics Technology, and Earth Space Science. The successful candidate will be both innovative and creative, possess a commitment to STEM education, and an overall passion for project, problem-based learning with real world application. This teacher is responsible to ensure all students acquire the course level objectives set forth by the Florida Department of Education STEM curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Education:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following areas: Math, Science, Physics, or a four-year degree in a field of Engineering.

Certificates/Licenses/ Registrations:

Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred. Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required. 

NOTE: Some positions (ie: Forensic Science and Computer Electronics Technology might be eligible for district certification. Eligibility for District Certificate may, include some of the following: 

· Related bachelor’s degree with two (2) years related experience. 
· Related AA/AS degree with four (4) years related experience. 
· One (1) year of technical training with five years of verifiable experience. 
· Six (6) years of in‐field verified work experience.

STEM TEACHER (GRADES 6-12) POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Secondary School Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a middle or High school

  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

  • Mathematical Skills: Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office

  • Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
  • Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds.
  • Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
