Mayor's Office City of Phoenix - HandsOn AmeriCorps VISTA member

Join the Mayor's Office of the fifth largest city in the nation to work in collaboration with City departments and community organizations to expand educational and workforce development programs! The successful applicant will work alongside their site manager (a former VISTA member) to foster awareness of and participation in the work of My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) in the Phoenix community, including workforce development and education programming: cultivate relationships with individuals and organizations that provide expertise or products/services to opportunity youth; address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men in low-income communities. You will work across multiple departments to expand and maintain the database of community resources contributing to the work of Phoenix Achieves and MBK and help to address challenges in connecting opportunity youth ages 16-24 who are not currently enrolled in school or employed with workforce opportunities.

Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be able to pass a Federal Background check
  • Must be able to work in the United States
Preferred qualities
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish
  • Familiarity in working with diverse communities such as young men of color and Opportunity Youth
 
 We are HandsOn Greater Phoenix's AmeriCorps VISTA program. All of our VISTA positions are for one year here in the Phoenix, Arizona metro area. VISTAs who move over 50 miles qualify for a relocation allowance as well as a settling in allowance. All of our VISTAs receive a modest living allowance of around $1,000/month, plus federal loans qualify for forbearance. After the completion of ones year of service they also qualify for around a $6,000 education award that can be used towards federal loans or for further education.
