Senior Safety Specialist

Title: Senior Safety Specialist 
Business Unit: Viking Pump 
Location: Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50613-3343
Function: Operations

Job Overview:
Responsible for the overall safety program administration across all locations including manufacturing, foundry and office. This position will be the primary contact specific to health and safety for the local teams and will also support the overall IDEX Corporate EH&S team objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage safety metrics, reporting and counter measure plans for all incidents
  • Assess data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and implement safety action plans
  • Manage safety policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all OSHA safety requirements, training, and audits
  • Work closely with Human Resources to manage the Workers Compensation process and security policies
  • Manage the OSHA Mandatory Silica Program for the foundries
  • Conduct safety walks throughout all locations
  • Support all Lean event and continuous improvement projects
  • Administer the annual safety training programs
  • Complete internal and external EH&S audits
  • Manage required programs such as lockout/tagout, respirator fit testing, annual hearing tests, CPR/First aid and other associated items
  • Administer evacuation protocols and policies
  • Work as a safety liaison with Supervisors and Managers
  • Deploy Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures in Operations
  • Lead the Union safety committee
  • Support capital projects specific to safety improvements, cost analysis and job enhancements
  • Consult with Human Resources specific to safety data, trends, issues, etc.
  • Partner with Management to define short term and long-term safety strategies and goals
  • Additional duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety or closely related technical field
  • Minimum five to seven years of safety experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of OSHA federal and state standards
  • Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene testing and standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
 
Work Environment Requirements:
  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions
  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person
  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use
  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization, enlisting the needed cooperation for successful implementation of programs and other measures needed to meet standards
