Office of Investment Policy - Overseas Private Investment Corporation

Description: 
For the Fall 2019 semester, multiple interns with an interest in Middle East affairs will be selected for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) at the Office of Investment Policy in Washington, DC. FREE Professional Seminars by ABPA experts and a Transportation Stipend will be provided to interns.

Interns will:
·     Identify, collect, and analyze relevant information concerning the potential impacts of proposed projects on workers and affected communities near projects;
·     Review various forms of project-level social policies and providing gap analyses between corresponding national and international legal and regulatory frameworks;
·     Assess host country laws and practices related to social governance and monitoring social-related news, trends, and events;
·     Identify recommendations to reach compliance with international best practices for social risk identification, management and monitoring; and
·     Perform other related tasks as assigned. Interns may attend meetings at other U.S. government or development finance agencies.
Eligibility:
·     US Citizenship is required
·     Must be currently enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university
·     Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
·     Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt
·     Be in good academic standing,
·     Concentrating in at least one of the following majors: International Relations/Affairs/Development/Business/Finance/Trade, Global Policy, Human Rights, Anthropology, Social Impact, Corporate Social Responsibility, International/Labor/Employment Law, Public Policy, Diplomacy, International Project Finance, Political Science, Sociology, or other related fields.
·     Knowledge of the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards and other international development, social assessment, human rights, or labor initiatives is a plus.
·     Candidates should also have strong analytical abilities; verbal and written communication skills; internet and library-based research skills; computer proficiency; and multitasking capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Arabic language is plus, but not required
