Software Systems Engineer

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for almost six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations.

SDL is seeking candidates for a software systems engineer to work directly with program management, engineers (mostly software engineers), software testers, and technical writers to ensure the successful program execution and technical solutions for MSS Branch customers including the Missile Defense Agency and the Space and Missile Systems Center under the U.S. Air Force Space Command. The selected candidate will help direct, lead, and implement contractual requirements from our customers and look for ways to improve our engineering processes and software architecture.

Key Responsibilities:
·  Work with program management to fully understand program requirements, schedule deadlines, and funding constraints
·  Help to develop engineering schedules and coordinate with program managers and internal/external team members to ensure that all technical program deliveries and milestones are met
·  Support engineering design reviews and teleconferences by creating technical presentations and presenting technical solutions to meet program requirements
·  Work with software testers and technical writers to ensure test procedures, user manuals, and training materials are accurate and complete
·  Travel to support technical meetings, test support activities, and system demonstrations
·  Suggest and implement new engineering practices and techniques to help SDL develop/maintain better products
·  Help to mentor and train engineers

Required Qualifications:
·   BS in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
·   Possess a working knowledge in the following areas: software design, algorithm development and efficient implementation, sensor data fusion, data visualization, graphical user interfaces, image and signal processing, remote sensing, ground support equipment, database design, sensor modeling, and web development 
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·  Ability to perform engineering trade-offs between customer requirements, schedule deadlines, program funding, and engineering best practices
·  Ability to work effectively in a team environment on collaborative efforts involving both internal and external team members
·  Must have or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance (TS/SCI)
·  Must be a US citizen
·  Must be able to travel

Preferred Qualifications:
·  Basic understanding of computer networking, network devices, and network protocols
·  Basic understanding of EO/IR sensor operating principles, synthetic scene generation, and system performance assessment techniques
·  Familiarity with programming software such as MATLAB and C++
·  Familiarity with scripting in a Unix or Windows environment (i.e., PowerShell and Bash)
·  Possess familiarity with basic Windows or Unix administration tasks and web application servers
·  Strong written and verbal communication skills
·  Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, etc. 
·  Familiarity with setting up and configuring Windows and Linux operating systems
