Beijing Innovation Center integrates global advanced agricultural technologies of molecular biology, plant pathology, cell biology and bioassay to support seeds and crop protection product development and pesticide resistance management.
 
Beijing Innovation Center is commissioned as a knowledge centre with deep scientific expertise, broad spectrum tools and robust capabilities for research and development. Partnering with Syngenta global business, it establishes an innovative and differentiating biotech pipeline to deliver market-driven products.

2.   The Forefront of External Research Collaborations
As a scientific base for biotech innovation and collaborations, Syngenta has invested near 100 million and accessed early leads and capabilities from top Chinese institutions and universities, such as Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) in identification of gene function and its development and application since 2007, continuing cultivating and providing talents for Chinese biotech industry to accelerate its evolution.

About This Job:
Syngenta Beijing Innovation Center is seeking a highly motivated senior scientist to be part of its Genome Editing Center of Excellence, as a member in Editing Technology Group. This person will be a key member to drive innovation, accomplish research objectives and deliver genome editing technology to crop R&D teams. The accountabilities are as following:
  • Develop Syngenta’s intellectual property to enable global FTO in genome editing technology
  • Deep understand global intellectual property in genome editing and develop IP strategy to ensure Syngenta’s FTO
  • Provide in-depth technical expertise on genomic editing technology and analysis for improvements of pipeline efficiency
  • Manage projects and actively interact with scientists within Syngenta business units to ensure critical project milestones met
  • Develop and manage research collaborations worldwide
  •  Maintain accurate experimental records and perform all activities in compliance with Syngenta quality management and HSE guidelines

Essential Knowledge & Experience:
  • Deep knowledge on genomic editing and plant breeding
  • Broad knowledge on genome research, molecular biology and genetics, biochemistry and biophysics
  • General knowledge in crop improvements via genomic editing;
  • Direct experience in experimental design and execution to meet all challenges in genomic editing technology and product development
  • Productive experience in genome editing technology research and development preferred

Qualifications:
  • PhD in molecular biology, genomic studies, genetics, and biochemistry and biophysics, plus 5+ years working experience in relevant field with a proven record of success in the form of publications and/or patents
  • Good scientific project planning, execution and reporting skills
  • Broad skills in molecular biology techniques, genetics, and biochemistry
  • Proficient in use of genome analysis and bioinformatics tools
  • Highly motivated, result oriented, and a good team player
  • Innovative thinking and problem solving
  • Being open-mined and collaborative
  • Flexible in handling and consistently deliver in a rapidly changing environment
  • Proficient in English and strong communication skills to interact with internal and external scientists
  • Able to influence and lead others
 
Important Additional Information:
  • Occasional early morning or late evening teleconference is required
  • Role based in Changping district, Beijing
