User Experience Designer / Prototyper Intern

You aspire to be a designer and developer who can bring great software product designs to life, with an endless array of ideas and a continual thirst to. The mission of our UXD team is to investigate, create, prove, and evolve advanced UX concepts with an eye towards new trends in the use of AI and big data in helping people to be more productive and content. The challenge is to quickly implement high-quality functional prototypes with the focus on validating UX concepts and solving design issues early. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Rapidly build and iteratively refine realistic, interactive, data-rich web prototypes to demonstrate end-to-end conceptual stories of future products and workflows, both for near-team releases and for long-range visionary or experimental concepts.
  • Actively participate during team ideation as the primary UI technical consultant who provides ideas from the outside world and helps to optimize between user experience and implementation cost/complexity.
  • Transfer technical knowledge discovered during prototyping to development, and help to achieve fidelity between the design intent and actual implementation.
  • Work deeply with development on the UI framework to advance design interests, including but not limited to: minimize technical costs of design changes, ease of UI customization, optimal design of UI widgets, appropriate theming mechanism.
  • Improve the prototyping experience through tools and techniques to help the team be faster with higher quality.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Experience using HTML, javascript and CSS styling.
  • Strong interest for both UX and Technology; comfortably switches between UX creative destruction and technical practicality.
  • Lives and breathes the user-centered design and the design thinking process.
  • Have a builder “just do it, fail and learn” mentality, fearlessly creating and tenaciously iterating.
  • Working towards or recently acquired a degree in Design, Computer Science, or a relevant field with a strong emphasis on design or equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Experience with Javascript UI libraries (e.g. highcharts).
  • Browser Debugging (e.g. Chrome’s Developer Tools, IE’s F12 Dev Tools, Firebug).
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping tools and techniques.
  • Experience with low fidelity, “quick and dirty” design tools (e.g. Balsamiq).
  • Experience in either using or designing for enterprise applications and the energy management / utilities business a plus.
  • Understanding of visual design, color theory, typography, composition and iconography a plus
