Director of Emergency Communications Center

DeKalb County has an opening in the Central Communications Center serving Law Enforcement, Fire Service and Emergency Medical response agencies.
The Director plans, organizes and directs all operations of the County-wide Enhanced-911 central communications systems (CENCOM) including various telephone, radio, teletype ( CRT) and other communications systems severing Law Enforcement, Fire Service and Emergency Medical response agencies in DeKalb County. The Director serves as chief staff advisor to the officials that comprise the CenCom Policy Board, various other departments and multijurisdictional public safety agencies on all emergency communications matter in the County.
This leader must have the ability to treat all personnel fairly and equally; ability to multi-task; ability to act accordingly during stressful situations; ability to establish effective working relationships and present professionalism with the general public, vendors, communications personnel, and emergency services personnel; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to follow discipline policy; exhibits moral and ethical behavior when conducting business; ability to manage conflict and problem solving; ability to acknowledge team accomplishments; ability to prepare and support those affected by change; ability to provide performance feedback; ability to set goals and objectives to promote growth; ability to motivate personnel; ability to recognize others' accomplishments and contributions.
The ideal candidate to fill this opening must have a minimum of an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in business of public administration, communications, or closely related field, and five years of progressively responsible professional level experience in public-safety communications and/or emergency management planning, including a required three years of managerial responsibilities; or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work. The Director shall meet all of NFPA 1061 requirements for Public Safety Telecommunicator I, II and III.
