ACE EPIC NPS: Museum Aid Internship – AmeriCorps
Summary: American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Museum Aid Intern interested in dedicating 10 weeks to work directly with the Adams Museum Department staff and other resource professionals at Adams National Historic Park. Through hands-on training with park staff, the ACE intern will acquire understanding of resource stewardship and learn collection management techniques. They will assist with a variety of projects including the photo-documentation, digitizing, care, environmental monitoring and inventory of museum collections.

Location: Adams National Historic Park, Quincy, Massachusetts
Adams National Historical Park was the home of two American presidents and subsequent generations of their descendants from 1720 to 1927. The purpose of the park is to preserve and protect the grounds, homes, and personal property of four generations of the Adams family and to use these resources to interpret the history they represent and to educate and inspire current and future generations. The park is comprised of 13 acres, 11 buildings and a collection comprising approximately 100,000 objects including original furnishings, books, archival materials and archeology donated by the family in 1946.

Compensation: The ACE Interns are expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $480/week to cover the costs of food and incidental expenses, paid biweekly. Housing is not provided, so local applicants are highly encouraged to apply.
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 300-hour AmeriCorps Education award ($1,289.95) upon successful completion of internship service hours. Additional enrollment is required.
Position Description: The ACE Intern will work alongside NPS professionals to cover a variety of resource management tasks within the park.
Specific duties may include:
- Working with park staff to care for the collections (historic home housekeeping and rehousing objects)
- Assist with environmental monitoring
- Photo- documentation, digitizing, and assisting with park's annual museum inventory.
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands may include tasks such as lifting, standing, bending, or reaching.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a degree (or be pursuing towards a degree) in the museum studies, history, archeology, archives, natural resource management (specimen identification and documentation), cultural/historic preservation, or a related discipline. A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable.
Required:
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Must be 18 to 35 years old (interns must be 21 years of age or older to apply for any ACE position that requires operation of agency or ACE vehicles)
- A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and ability to provide documentation upon request.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with NPS resource professionals.
- Ability to complete tasks well independently and with a team
- Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required
- English proficiency
Preferred:
- Museum collection experience
The ACE intern must be willing to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner. Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
