Air Pollution Control Engineer

The Lake Michigan Air Directors Consortium (LADCO) is seeking an entry-level Air Pollution Control
Engineer to assist the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Madison, Wisconsin.

Position Summary:
This position will develop, analyze and implement stationary source air pollution control rules,
policy, and guidance. This position will review proposed federal regulations affecting stationary
source emissions, develop and implement air pollution control regulations, and conduct engineering
analyses for the application of air pollution control technologies. In addition, this position will
review and perform engineering evaluations of air pollution control permits in the state of
Wisconsin.

This position will work as a member of a team to strategize, develop, and implement solutions to
federal Clean Air Act requirements. For example, this position will assist the department with
implementation of federal greenhouse gas rules affecting stationary sources, reviewing and drafting
state regulations, implementing state VOC and NOx Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT) rules, and track source compliance with interstate ozone transport and regional haze rules.
The ideal applicant is comfortable working in a dynamic policymaking environment, is capable and
motivated to understand complex regulations, is detailed oriented and well organized, can manage
flexible work assignments, enjoys challenges, and has exceptional written and verbal communication
skills.

Compensation:
Starting pay is between $23.38 - $29.03 an hour, based on the candidate’s qualifications and
experience.

Qualifications:
Minimally qualified candidates will meet ONE of the criteria listed below:
• Has graduated or will graduate by time of appointment from a recognized college or university
with a degree in a related engineering field.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and
Professional Services (WDSPS) per s. 443.04, Wis. Stats.
• A specific record, issued by the professional engineering section of the WDSPS, showing 4 years
or more of experience in engineering work of a character satisfactory to the professional
engineering section AND satisfactory completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam.
• Has equivalent professional training and practical experience so as to be deemed a professional
engineer as defined in WDSPS per s. 443.01, Wis. Stats. AND also deemed to be qualified to engage
in professional engineering practice as determined by the WDSPS per s. 443.04 or 443.05, Wis.
Stats.

This is an entry-level position. However, well-qualified candidates will:
•   Understand pollution control technologies associated with electrical generating units (EGUs).
•    Have ability to understand air pollution control regulations at a state level.
•    Have operated in a multidisciplinary, team environment.
•    Are highly motivated to apply their skills to unfamiliar content.

Location:
This position is located in the central office of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in
Madison, Wisconsin.
