WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Environmental Scientist or Assistant Geologist for our Madison office. Assistant Environmental Scientists/Geologists conduct a range of field activities including supervision of drilling and monitoring well installation activities, multi-media sampling, and oversight of contractors. Our Assistant Environmental Scientists/Geologists evaluate and interpret field and sampling data, develop conclusions concerning site conditions based on data analysis, and prepare written plans and reports related to site investigation and remediation activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
·        Develop thorough knowledge of standard field sampling procedures for various environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air)
·        Document and record field data and observations in a clear and organized manner, and prepare logs and other forms from the field notes
·        Become knowledgeable of intrusive drilling and sampling techniques used in unconsolidated deposits and bedrock
·        Direct and oversee the installation of groundwater monitoring wells
·        Assist in the field performance of aquifer tests and analysis of test data using standard solution methods
·        Supervise and direct various contractors while conducting environmental site investigation and remediation work
·        Coordinate field activities and schedules with property/facility owner/operators in a clear, professional manner
·        Provide assistance in the analysis, evaluation and interpretation of hydrologic, hydrogeologic and chemical data obtained during field investigations
·        Prepare site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), and demonstrate the ability to implement safe work practices in the field in accordance with the HASP and other applicable regulations
·        Assist project managers in subcontractor selection, contracting and coordination during field investigation activities
·        Assist in preparing project plans and technical reports of investigation and remediation activities and provide analysis and interpretations of findings
·        Gain working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to environmental site investigation and remediation projects

Experience Qualifications:
·    Bachelor of Science degree in environmental sciences/geology/earth sciences or related discipline with 0 to 1 years of experience. Candidates with Master of Science degree in environmental sciences/geology/earth sciences also will be considered.
·    Valid US driver’s license
·    Certifications desired: OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training, DOT Training, CPR and First Aid Training, and other related environmental certifications 
Preferred Qualifications
·        Internships or former employment demonstrating relevant work experience
·        Familiarity with ArcGIS software/applications
·        Experience conducting phase I environmental site assessments following ASTM International Standard E 1527-13  
 
Travel Expectation
·        This position will require the Assistant Environmental Scientist/Geologist to travel routinely to various job sites across the United States. Travel assignments frequently requires multiple overnight stays within the project locale, and for some assignments, mobilizations for two to three weeks may be required.
