Job Description
Title: Bureaus of Land Management Curation & Archaeology Individual Placement (2 positions)
Start Date: July 22nd, 2019 - January 17th, 2020
Stipend:  $500/week (+Education Award) 
Term:  26 weeks 
Reports To:  Bureau of Land Management - New Mexico State Office
Location:  Santa Fe, NM 87508
Status:  900-hour AmeriCorps Service Term 
Benefits:  AmeriCorps Education Award $2,960.00 after successful completion 
 
 
  
  
Southwest Conservation Corps’ Mission 
It is the mission of the Southwest Conservation Corps to empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities and the environment. 
 
Program Overview: 
 
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages public lands to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. 
 
The Heritage Program at the Bureau of Land Management New Mexico State Office provides policy and guidance for managing cultural resources on Public Lands in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Cultural resource managed by BLM include museum collections, which are housed at non-federal repositories. The NMSO is responsible for fulfilling requirements under the Native American Graves Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) for collections made prior to November 16, 1990. Essential functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Past NAGPRA activities documentation and status report
  • Archival and other records research
  • Compiling documentation of collections and past consultations
  • Training provided:
  • Orientation to BLM
  • Orientation to the NAGPRA from the federal agency
  • Assist in coordination of Tribal consultation
  • Prepare documentation of past consultations
  • Identify outstanding needs
  • Assist in planning meetings
  • Preparation of draft summaries, inventories, and notices
  • Update documentation for summaries and inventories from existing information
  • Where necessary, draft notices of inventory completion or correction notices for approval by BLM
 
 
 
 
 
 
General Qualifications: 
  • Enrolled in a Bachelors degree program in Anthropology
 The successful applicant must be  self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision after the initial training period. 
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Graduate students preferred
 
Requirements: 
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Permanent Resident Card, INS form I-551
  • Alien Registration Card, INS form I-551
  • A passport indicating that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
  • A departure record ( INS 194) indication that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
  • Driver's License
