Senior Engineering Geologist

Great Job in Sacramento for a geologist to help make groundwater use and governance in California sustainable.

  1.  Are you licensed as a Professional Geologist or Professional Geophysicist in California?
  2. Do you think about public policy and governance?
  3. Do you know California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act?
  4. Do you want to work in Sacramento, California?

Consider applying for a high-profile position as one of the principal implementers of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). SGMA may be the biggest change in California water law in a century. It is a major and contentious state policy affecting groundwater use, land use, surface water use, climate resilience, local communities and economies, and the environment. The intention is for groundwater users to govern the use of local groundwater resources in ways that meet state policy goals. The work will be varied, but at the core, you will lead the state’s management of groundwater use basin by basin to protect the state’s resources and interests where local groundwater management efforts are inadequate.

See the job posting here. Applications are due 7/12/2019. The compensation is $112,680 to $141,036 per year, plus benefits. If you don’t have “eligibility” yet in the California hiring system, you’ll need to take the online “exam” here: https://jobs.ca.gov/JOBSGEN/8PB71.PDF.

Must possess a valid certificate of registration as a geologist or geophysicist.
