Postdoctoral Critical Care Research

Description
Research at the CIF is conducted with the purpose of advancing military science and developing advanced military technologies to improve healthcare of patients on and off the battlefield. The research aims to address unique military medical requirements that civilian institutions and industry may not have economic incentive to pursue.

The ORISE participant will have the opportunity to participate in several translational projects to support military technologies to improve healthcare of patients on and off the battlefield. These research projects will including "Novel methods for damage control of hyperkalemia in combat casualties", "Pilot Study of Extracorporeal Low-Flow Filtration in a Porcine (Sus scrofa) Model of Sepsis", and "Vent Right Technologies: Portable Ventilation Monitoring Optimizing Critical Care Across the Ventilation Continuum." These research projects serve as an excellent opportunity for the participant to learn about the continuum of research from IACUC protocols, gain hands-on research experience and take part in scientific writing for publication.

Appointment Length
This appointment is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by DGMC-CIF. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Training and Travel Allowance

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications
Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
