Finance and Admin Support Intern

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: 
The Finance and Administration Department is responsible for the IRC in Northern California’s financial accounting functions and the oversight of the financial accounting processes of the offices to support programs. This includes ensuring financial transactions and statements are completed timely and accurately in compliance with GAAP / IFRS, and that accounting records contain the information necessary to meet reporting requirements to internal management and donors. This intern position is within the Finance and Administration team and will support the team with various projects and month end close responsibilities included assisting with client coordination support (front desk coverage) and helping to foster an environment in which both clients and staff thrive in productivity. 

FINANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Assist with some stages of check processing 
  • Auditing and filing financial records 
  • Reconcile inventory with records to ensure accuracy of records 
  • Assist with researching, follow-up and resolving outstanding checks 
  • Assist in various Accounting / Finance related projects as needed 

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Assist in inventory and procurement of supplies 
  • Maintain records of procurement orders 
  • Monitor and maintain common areas of the office 
  • Assist in maintaining and creating vendor files 
  • Maintain the general voicemail and phone system 
  • Troubleshoot IT issues as they arise 
  • Any other duties as assigned 
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Reliable and flexible 
  • Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
 
This position reports to the Senior Finance Coordinator. 
  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • Work related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the IRS Charitable Rate. 
  • Internships are available for current college students starting in their second year, graduate students, and graduates less than 2 years post-graduation. Course credit is available if the student coordinates with their university and confirms the appropriate paperwork with the Volunteer Coordinator.

COMMITMENT:
Hours per week: 15-30 hours per week, during IRC's regular business hours of 9 am-5 pm, M - F
Duration: 4-6 months, or 240 hours
IRC is committed to working with student schedules. As such, we are flexible with accommodating time off for midterms and school holidays, and altering time availability with changing class schedules.
