Job Description Outside Sales-Product Specialist #WRS108-Central Florida
The position reports directly to the VP Sales. Responsible for growing sales of his/her assigned product line(s) in a specific geographic territory to building supply centers, lumber yards, as well as, national pro dealers chains. The Products Specialist also captures pull-through sales by promoting products with builders and architects.
The focus and scope of this job is to ensure that the branch:
  1. Is fully engaged in the successful development and execution of comprehensive product-driven sales plans.
  2. 100% of the Product Specialist’s time should be focused on driving the product-related aspects of the company’s sales growth strategy.
  3. Develops, implements, and executes sound strategies and tactical plans to improve the operational and financial performance of the sales team; and
  4. Achieves revenue results that align with the company’s strategic goals.
Personal initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. Because the business environment changes rapidly, the work involves innovation and creativity in planning and problem solving. Sound decision-making is required to implement practical, timely solutions.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Sales & Marketing
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads.
  • Prepares an annual sales budget with guidance from sales management.
  • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders.
  • Displays or demonstrates product line.
  • Travels with dealer reps to job sites to do product take offs on site, or according to architect plans.
  • Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer.
  • Identifies and recommends new product lines, line extensions, or line evolutions to the branch management team.
  • Coordinates marketing programs and develops marketing collateral for their assigned product lines.
  • Prepares and generates reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
  • Works closely with inside sales representatives, buyers and product managers.
  • Coordinates and performs customer training.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts.
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems.
  • Attends trade shows.
  • Visits job sites to work with customers on pull through sales opportunities.
  • Performs market research on new product opportunities.
  • Works with Pricing and Sales management to establish pricing programs that achieve planned Shipping profit levels.
Inventory Management
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the seasonal nature of each product category at the branch level.
  • Accurately forecasts future demand and the associated inventory requirements.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of Branch inventory levels, associated investments and turn rates.
Vendor Relations
  • Communicates all assigned vendor line changes (pricing, product line deletions / additions, lead-times, etc.) in a timely manner to the appropriate throughout the corporate an branch organizations.
Systems Management
  • Ensures that new customer data and other sales data for current customers is captured and maintained in the appropriate IT systems.

Education & Experience
3-5 years of experience in a sales role, ideally in the building products industry.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as discounts, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Other Skills/Certification
Microsoft Suite—Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint (Intermediate and Advanced). A valid Drivers License in State of residence required.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
