In 2018 we introduced Achievement Schools, an effort to focus on students with the highest needs. We seek special teachers for positions at our Achievement Schools. The overarching aim is to give every student a chance to succeed and lead. Our district has had a spike in overall graduation rates to an all-time high of 85.8 percent in the 2017-18 academic year. Our Achievement Schools directive will help guide students to even greater heights.

Teachers in Achievement Schools are eligible for pay differential up to $13,000 a year including special incentives. This incentive, called Spark, is designed to spark your interest and spark the minds of the children you’ll inspire. Bonus pay and free or discounted child care are part of the incentives. If you have had experience such as an internship or a specialized degree in Urban Education, at a high-needs school, we are especially eager to talk to you!

We’re looking for teachers who:

·        Want to help students learn in a totally different way through using senses other than their eyes.
·        Want to work in partnership with colleagues. We have a team of up to 35 teachers who are collaborative and supportive…the size of our countywide team is larger than that of most other states!

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Certificates/Licenses/ Registrations:
Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Exceptional Student Education Certified with a degree in Visual Disabilities or Visual Impairment preferred. Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required.

VISUALLY IMPAIRED or DISABLED/EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION (ESE) TEACHER

Position Summary: The Teacher, Exceptional Student Education (ESE), is responsible for the instruction of all areas of Exceptional Student Education within a classroom setting with visually impaired or disabled students.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

·        Designs and implements appropriate Specially Designed Instruction, accommodations, and supports assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
·        Develops and implements Individual Educational Plans (IEP) plans for students to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
·        Creates a positive educational climate for students with disabilities to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
·        Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.
·        Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
·        Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies, implementing positive behavior supports and evidence-based interventions, and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
·        Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
·        Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
·        Provides oversite to paraprofessionals
·        Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, data and full time equivalency (FTE) documentation.
·        Attends workshops and trainings to continue to build in Exceptional Student Education knowledge and skills.
·        Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.

·        Mathematical Skills: Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

·        Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

·        Computer Skills: Microsoft Office

Physical Demands:

·        Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
·        Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds.
·        Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
·        Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity 3 moderate.
