Multimedia Graphic Design Intern

Responsibilities

Internship: 20 hours per week / $20.00 per hour 
 
Position objective: The Multimedia Graphic Design Internship focuses primarily on print and multimedia graphic design. The intern will play a critical role in the design and development of creative print and digital media assets aimed at promoting ACT Research publications, programs, and services. The intern will also be expected to provide editorial support, leverage their communications strengths, offer solutions to a wide variety of communications challenges, and deliver on specific project assignments.
 
Typical work-related activities include:
  • Work with a wide range of media and graphic design software tools, such as Word, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, AfterEffects, etc.
  • Design and produce research publications, such as reports, briefs, brochures, and infographics, for distribution on a variety of channels
  • Visualize and create themed design concepts and graphics to support research publications, programs, and services, such as cover assets, social media content, and animated graphics
  • Provide editorial and quality proof support to ensure final graphics and layouts meet quality expectations and adhere to designated brand, style, and formatting guidelines
  • Work with interdepartmental teams to creatively and strategically promote ACT Research publications, programs, and services
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with ACT staff and clients
  • Organize and contribute to cross-functional team brainstorming sessions
  • Shoot and edit video footage, sync audio, and create motion graphics
  • Assist with design, wireframing, and content management for the external-facing ACT Research website and special project landing pages
  • Help to identify sustainable media/communication strategies and processes, based on ACT climate, available resources, etc.
  • Identify relevant performance measures/indicators for evaluating success, and provide performance monitoring, tracking, and evaluation support
  • Write articles, briefs, blog posts, ebooks, etc. and pull material from existing reports to create visual content for target audience dissemination
  • Maintain an understanding of and apply specified Section 508 accessibility standards to publications and other developed content
  • Execute special projects and serve on project teams as assigned
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making work-related decisions

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
 
Education: 
  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing graduate degree (preferably in Multimedia/Graphic Design, Mass Communications, or related field)
 
Experience:
  • Graphic design/visual/multimedia communication experience
  • Demonstrated competence in developing creative assets, such as report design, social media content, infographics, as well as motion/animated videos
  • Experience managing and organizing work
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Advanced creative design skills with experience developing publications, social media collateral, and other digital material
  • Advanced experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, AfterEffects, and Dreamweaver
  • Proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them into images, layouts, and other design elements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline driven, collaborative climate
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • General interest in and understanding of emerging technology
  • Understanding of Section 508 accessibility guidelines; experience using accessibility software (e.g., CommonLook) preferred
  • Working knowledge and use of video production and editing programs, such as Premiere Pro preferred
  • Experience with DSLR cameras and video equipment preferred
  • Experience shooting and editing video footage, syncing audio, motion graphics/animation preferred
  • General knowledge and understanding of performance metrics and analytics tools such Google Analytics preferred
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Must be authorized to work in the US
