Tax Accountant

Key Areas of Responsibility
Tax Compliance:
·        Manage the external Tax advisors in preparation of Income, Property and other various taxes in US & Canada
·        Preparation of various minor federal, state and local tax returns
·        Manage and ensure compliance with tax obligations in North America
·        Ensure there are adequate systems in place for the capture of all necessary information to meet the company’s tax obligations
·        Review and assess tax positions to ensure consistency with the company’s tax policies and risk profile
·        Development and review of monthly non-federal tax accruals

Tax Consulting:
·        Provide advice in respect of business proposals and other tax issues as required
·        Review major contracts to be entered into by the company to ensure the tax efficiency of transactions
·        Seek external advice where required and coordinate the provision of such advice
·        Respond to internal tax queries that may include past, present and future business

Taxation Policy and Procedure:
·        Liaison between North American and Australian parent on tax issues
·        Develop local tax policy and procedures based on overall company tax policy

Other:
·        Local leader for the management of Insurance in North America
·        Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations.
·        Support and comply with Company policies and procedures as advised and documented in the Company’s employment policies as amended from time to time and as directed by Managers/Supervisors.
·        Any other duties appropriate to the level and responsibility of the position as required.


Qualifications and Experience
·        Degree qualified in an accounting discipline with tax qualifications
·        CPA or similar certification
·        Prior 5-7 years’ experience in a similar role
·        Strong grasp of taxation laws and practices essential
·        Ability to move between federal, state and local agencies
·        Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Canadian Tax rules
·        Skilled in various Microsoft products, along with ERP experience
·        Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
·        Strong attention to detail and well planned
·        Consultative approach to work
·        Strong communication and interpersonal skills
