Key Roles
East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Fixed Asset and Capital Project Accountant at our Winchester, Kentucky headquarters. This position is responsible for maintaining the Company’s fixed asset and project costing subsidiary records and preparing the annual property tax return. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to analyze complex financial data, explain account variances, and ensure the proper, accurate, and timely completion of various financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the requirements of various regulatory agencies (RUS, FERC, Kentucky Public Service Commission), and the policies East Kentucky Power Cooperative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains the PeopleSoft Project Costing and Asset Management modules.
  • Ensures compliance with the RUS Uniform System of Accounts, company policy, and internal controls related to the cost accounting process.
  • Reviews proposed projects, assigns project identification numbers based upon project type, and maintains all related activity in PeopleSoft Project Costing.
  • Maintains all detailed fixed asset records including, but not limited to, additions, depreciation, retirements, transfers, and adjustments. 
  • Analyzes, prepares, and processes accounting entries for all asset transactions, including depreciation.
  • Reconciles the fixed asset module and capital project balances to the General Ledger.
  • Prepares the annual property tax return and validates county tax assessments.
  • Prepares all internal and external reports related to fixed assets and projects.
  • Provides analysis, supporting schedules, or documentation as needed for the annual independent audit and regulatory compliance audits.
  • Cross-trains in other areas within the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Requirements

Education and Certifications / Licenses:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area required. Accounting degree preferred, but if in related area, a minimum of 18 hours of college level accounting is required.

Experience:
  • Five (5) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of FERC and RUS accounting requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of Excel and PeopleSoft applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must use discretion when dealing with sensitive accounting documents.

Conditions of Employment
  • Primarily an inside position with usual office conditions with regular lifting up to twenty (20) pounds and occasional climbing of stepladders.
  • May require working outside normal hours.
