Analyst

Altus Group is currently looking for an Analyst for our Compliance Services team in our Property Tax division. Our Compliance Services team prepares personal property tax returns for clients in every state that levies a personal property tax. We take pride in our efforts to minimize property taxes and provide our clients with an unparalleled level of customer service. Working out of our Phoenix, Arizona office, you will be responsible for the collection and accurate input of property values & assessments, taxes and tax bill processing as directed. You may also be responsible for scheduling, preparing and processing correspondence and documentation for submission to clients and/or assessors or tax collectors, all while providing excellent customer service. You will be part of a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, learning from senior staff with excellent experience in the industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with various levels of the Altus team and client personnel to complete daily and weekly client service activities
  • Analyze client provided fixed asset data using intermediate to advanced Excel or Access functions to conform data to client specific import formats; review for data integrity errors; and compare to prior year data for consistency of content, new assets and missing assets.
  • Efficiently and accurately enter, update and analyze data in relevant software system (e.g. OneSource) in order to prepare personal property tax returns for a variety of client types. Correspond with clients, assessors, and local taxing authorities.
  • Prepare personal property tax returns using OneSource Property Tax software, prepare related state workpapers, and review workpapers for completeness & accuracy prior to senior staff review.
  • Review assessments and tax bills issued and input into software by others for accuracy. Contact jurisdictions for workpapers on assessments that are higher than expected, review workpapers to determine reason for the variance, document and present findings to senior staff.
  • Review property tax software system for completeness and integrity of tax bill and assessment data, review or prepare bill payment batches, correspond with clients for approvals, correspond with assessor/collector contacts to obtain or provide information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
  • College or university degree in related discipline (business, accounting, finance, math) or related experience in property tax.
  • 1-2 years of related business experience preferred.
  • Property tax background is a plus.
  • Work to achieve a general understanding of assessing jurisdiction policies and procedures and methodologies for the valuation of property, as well as continuously upgrade the level of knowledge related to such.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel (vlookup and pivot tables) and Access.
  • Knowledge of OneSource is an asset.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to work with large amounts of data and paper documents.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to take initiative to manage upcoming tasks.
