Ulman Foundation is a national non-profit organization that changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. The 4K for Cancer is a program of Ulman, that sends 180 young adults biking or running 4,000+ miles across the country to raise money and awareness for the young adult cancer community.

Program Description
4K for Cancer participants have chosen to dedicate their summers to cycling and running from coast to coast, over 4,000 miles. Riders tackle 50-120 miles per day, while runners cover 10-16 miles per day. Our participants ensure these miles count by dedicating them to others impacted by cancer and each individually fundraising $4500. Ultimately, their journey inspires hope and unites communities across the United States in the fight against cancer.

Credit Description:
Participants of the 4K for Cancer may take on a credit opportunity in conjunction with their cross-country bike ride or run experience. With taking on an extra credit opportunity, participants are opting to complete additional work beyond the general 4K for Cancer assignments in order to receive credit at their university. Students will work with their school to determine their focus, credit amount, time frame, and schedule. Typically students can work with either their Major’s Department or the general campus career center to learn about the necessary steps to take to receive internship or independent study credit for their 4K experience.

Before contacting your university, have in mind how many credits you wish to earn, how many hours you will be dedicating per week to your 4K credit experience, and the topic you wish to focus your credit on. Credit opportunity topics are very flexible. Participants can choose a topic that interests them and moves their education forward. Past participants have focused on: fundraising, training, leadership responsibilities, marketing, social media, and much more. Feel free to work with your 4K Coordinator to determine the best focus for you.
