Technical Research Analyst

MDRC is seeking a Technical Analyst to work within its growing Data Collection Unit (DCU). DCU staff members provide data collection design and administration expertise and evaluate MDRC’s data collection methods , whether administered in-house, by a partner, or a combination of the two. The newly hired technical analyst will play a role in the ongoing evolution of the DCU as the scope, complexity, and quantity of internal data collection efforts grow. The ideal candidate will have an interest in survey methodology and a strong understanding of web survey implementation.

Responsibilities:
  • Accurately program instruments (and similar) into Qualtrics.
  • Review instruments for quality, consistency, and clarity.
  • Test programming to ensure programming logic has been properly followed.
  • Work with project teams to manage survey processes, including launch, reminders, troubleshooting, data retrieval, and reporting.
  • Develop web survey best practices for MDRC project teams.
  • Engage in the ongoing process of improving the evolving data collection experience at MDRC.
  • Promote understanding of and compliance with the best data collection practices and updated data security policies.
  • Provide guidance on data collection instruments.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of an MA/MS in survey methodology, statistics, economics, public policy, social science, computer science, or a related field is required, or BA/BS in similar fields with 4+ years of experience.
  • Experience programming in Qualtrics (or similar package).
  • Interest in survey research, poverty research, and social safety-net programs.
  • Strong technical documentation skills and data management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with a statistical or database programming language (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, STATA, SQL).
  • Good understanding of and experience with quantitative research methods.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and self-motivated and to prioritize and balance a diverse workload.
  • Skilled at multitasking; able to coordinate, organize, prioritize, and execute responsibilities in the face of conflicting priorities and unexpected situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced Microsoft Word and Excel skills required.
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
