Current H2NOW Chicago Fall Internship
Current sources and de-risks innovative water tech solutions for industries, utilities and investors, and connects innovators to opportunities. Whether a stakeholder develops, uses, or invests in water tech solutions, becoming a member of Current will help them create value, improve performance and deliver results. Launched in 2016 as a partnership of the City of Chicago, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and World Business Chicago, Current is a non-profit based in Chicago that leverages the city’s world-class utilities, research institutions, industries and innovation community to improve global environmental and economic impact.
Current is seeking one fall intern with an environmental sciences/sustainability-focus. The Current H2NOW Chicago Fall Intern will contribute to Current’s keystone project, H2NOW Chicago, which is the first real-time microbial monitoring effort of its kind in the US, through a variety of different tasks, such as:
· Leading water quality sampling and testing at 3 different locations on the Chicago River
· Coordinating scheduling with project community, utility and research partners
· Data collection and analysis
· Circumnavigating any problems that arise between project stakeholders
· Development and implementation of new side-projects related to the project
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Research and Analysis: Support existing H2NOW programs through research and analysis
· Project Development: Assist in developing and implementing side-projects for H2NOW
· Outreach and Communications: Develop strategic communications content, including social media posts/schedules and press releases, and support events that bring together stakeholders from community groups, research institutions, startups, industry leaders and utilities
Required Qualifications
· Active student in BS environmental sciences/sustainability program
· 1-3 years of experience or background in science, technology, or business desirable
· Aptitude for, and interest in, applied water research, technology development, sustainable solutions, and/or commercialization of technology
· Ability to work independently and self-guide work
· Strong writing, verbal communication and presentation skills
· Experience in a start-up or entrepreneurial environment desired
· Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office products
· Ability to lead a diverse group of volunteers
· Ability to follow scientific processes accurately
· Availability between 7:30am-12pm, three days a week a big plus
The Current H2NOW Chicago Fall Intern will work on a part-time basis of a minimum of 15 hours per week for approximately 15 weeks from mid-September through mid-December 2019. Interns will receive a stipend in biweekly installments depending on the number of hours worked.
