The Nuclear Waste Program (NWP) within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Facility Transition Project Manager position. This position is located in the Richland, WA office.
We are looking for an experienced project manager who is organized, a good communicator and a strong leader.
The Facility Transition Project Manager position leads the Facility Transition Project to ensure that contaminated buildings and other cleanup sites at the Hanford site are characterized, evaluated, and remediated in a manner that protects human health and the environment. The position is also responsible for Ecology's regulatory oversight at three other mixed waste facilities – Perma-fix, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and Energy Northwest's Columbia Generating Station (Energy Facilities Site Evaluation Council-EFSEC). This position also supports the four State Waste Discharge permits for discharge of groundwater at Hanford and two Sand and Gravel permits for the Waste Treatment Plant at Hanford.

Duties
The Nuclear Waste Program's (NWP) mission is to lead the effective and efficient cleanup of the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site; to ensure sound management of mixed hazardous wastes in Washington; and protect the state's air, water, and land at and adjacent to the Hanford site.
Some of the key work activities of the Facility Transition Project Manager position are:
- Manages, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the administrative and technical work scope of the Transition Project for the Nuclear Waste Program.
- Directs field and technical activities (up to 15 employees) for the Nuclear Waste Program.
- Provides vision and direction for state and nationally significant activities and ensures coordinated service delivery, cross-program cooperation and consistent application of various, sometimes competing regulations.
- Provides direct technical leadership to specific project staff including hydrogeologists, chemists, environmental specialists, environmental engineers and administrative team members.
- Represents the Agency to local government, private industry, public and federal stakeholder groups as a subject matter expert for RCRA, MTCA, Hazardous Waste and CERCLA regulation implementation regarding mixed waste and other dangerous waste.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree involving a major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other related field
AND
Seven (7) years of professional-level experience showing progressively increasing responsibilities in environmental analysis and control, or environmental planning.
Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year-for-year, for education.
Desired Qualifications:
- Commercial or government project management experience preferred.
- Environmental regulation implementation, permitting or enforcement experience preferred.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
- This position must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- This position requires passing a U.S. Department of Energy test and acquiring a badge for access to the Hanford site.
- HAZWOPER 40 hour certification is required to perform the work. Must be able to meet the physical activity requirements for this certification.
