ROLE SYNOPSIS
The safety of our sites, the well-being of our people and our impact on the environment are absolutely fundamental to our business. That is why HSSE is a global discipline that crosses so many areas of our business. Our responsibility is to communicate key policies and requirements to BP teams working on operational sites or projects, and keeping HSSE issues at the forefront just like other business drivers like cost and schedule.
The Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Challenger will report directly to a member of the Safety and Environmental Teams. The HSE Challenger will be assigned roles in both Safety and Environmental during their Challenger Rotations. Responsibilities will include, but is not limited to:
1. Developing site wide safety communications
2. Developing safety training programs
3. Delivering training sessions to small and large groups that could include operations, maintenance, management, and contractors
4. Completing site gap assessments for company policies and regulatory compliance
5. Assisting with planning efforts for Turnarounds and maintenance activities
6. Completing field assessments of operational and maintenance tasks
7. Conducting gas monitoring using direct reading gas detection equipment
8. Providing support to the environmental team, safety team, health team, and contractor safety council when requested
9. Settling applicability of regulations to equipment and processes onsite
10. Improving or developing (where needed) compliance programs
11. Collaborating with operations to educate and improve environmental and safety performance
12. Collecting measurements from equipment in the refinery to meet recordkeeping and reporting requirements
13. Provide technical support on regulatory compliance and performance for assigned environmental compliance programs
14.Ensure environmental compliance requirements are adequately documented through plans, policies, procedures, and compliance tracking tools

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
• Must have cumulative and major GPA of 3.2 or higher
• BP will not support US Immigration sponsorship for full-time or long-term employment
• Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Environmental, Safety, or Industrial Hygiene
 
DEVELOPMENT
The Downstream Challenge Program is BP’s early development program for technical and professional disciplines within the Downstream segment. The aim of the program is to build fully competent independent professionals within a discipline to support business delivery within their direct Business or Function. It is a competency-based program which provides graduates practical experience, informal and formal learning while building discipline foundations.
All programs develop your technical skills to support our business.   
As a new graduate the program will offer you:
• Various assignments during the first 2-3 years in areas such as:
• Corporate project management
• A structured and supportive environment in which to develop the skills and competencies you need to be successful in an HSE role, including targeted learning and development, and a mentoring system.
• A robust overview and orientation of the business

After time in the program, you will be supported to continue your career in aHSE or broader role that matches your skills and capabilities with our business needs.
SEGMENT
The Downstream segment has global manufacturing and marketing operations. It is the product and service-led arm of BP, made up of three businesses:
• Fuels – includes refineries, fuels marketing and convenience retail businesses, together with global oil supply and trading activities that make up our fuels value chains (FVCs). We sell refined petroleum products including gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel.
• Lubricants – manufactures and markets lubricants and related products and services globally, adding value through brand, technology and relationships, such as collaboration with original equipment manufacturing partners.
• Petrochemicals – manufactures, sells and distributes products, that are produced mainly using proprietary BP technology, and are then used by others to make essential consumer products such as paint, plastic bottles and textiles. We also license our technologies to third parties.
