Full Time | Kenosha, WI
Education, Training, and Licenses:
- Minimum 3 years direct related experience safety field required; experience in food or industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or degree in safety/environmental disciplines or like experience, preferred.
- Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
- Mechanical background, including knowledge of food or industrial manufacturing equipment maintenance, a plus.
- Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking); Bilingual skills a plus.
- Current certification of 10-hour OSHA compliance and 30-hour OSHA compliance required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with OSHA, EPA, and other regulations and standards (NFPA, NIOSH, DNR, etc.), including technical understanding of these regulations and standards.
- Continuing education on new federal, state, and local regulations.
- Management experience in diverse workforces.
- Working knowledge of 40 CFR Environmental regulations and state and municipalities regulations in WI.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to interact with a wide range of perspectives from leadership to production staff employees.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Policies/Procedures:
- Stay informed of safety, health and environmental regulation changes at the Federal, State, and local level in order to:
- Research, develop, implement, and maintain company safety/environmental policies and procedures to ensure continued compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and ensure recordkeeping requirements are met; provide recommendations as needed.
- Monitor emergency preparedness programs including evacuation plans, tornado plans, and coordination of EMS responses.
- Monitor procedures for the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Monitor and implement safety program trainings for personnel including chemical hazards and use of personal protective equipment.
- Monitor implementation of safety programs; take action to redirect activity where performance falls short of targets.
Compliance
- Direct contact with OSHA representatives, conduct in-briefs, out-briefs and follow-up actions.
- Interface with Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies as needed.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (aka MSDS) files
- Oversee completion of OSHA Log.
- Communicate all safety and environmental issues in a timely manner.
- Responsible for implementing established safety procedures, utilization of safety equipment and devices, and eliminating hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
- Responsible for preparing and filing environmental reports and interfacing with regulatory agencies in a timely manner. Prepare and secure all necessary permits.
- Responsible for preparing applications for permits to install, operate, or modify pollution control systems
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping requirements.
- File annual reports to DNR, EPA, relating to chemical storage, usage, and release.
Worker’s Compensation
- Participate in investigation of serious accidents/ injuries and monitor investigations of all minor accidents and injuries.
- Review all accident and near miss reports to ensure a thorough investigation was completed; follow up as needed and identify corrective actions.
- Work to ensure the timely return-to-work or transitional duty of injured employees.
- Develop and implement strategies that will reduce recordable incident rates below national average.
- Work closely to manage all workers compensation claims with adjusters and physicians
Audits
- Audit facilities to assure compliance with appropriate Federal, State, and local regulations; analyze workplace safety and health hazards as well as evaluate industrial hygiene testing.
- Conduct audits: PPE, fall protection, machine guarding, signage, documentation, etc.
- Participate in division OSHA or other compliance inspections or audits that may occur.
- Update written programs
Reporting
- Provide leadership with timely accident/injury trending and other compliance reports. Interpret data and make recommendations where appropriate to address negative trends.
- Prepare various reports for OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Monitor and evaluate accident / illness trends and implement strategies to reduce workers’ compensation costs.
- Compile data and reports as needed.
- Meetings/Conferences/Calls (Attend and active participation)
- Daily mornings operations meeting
- Bi-monthly HR and Safety Corporate Conference Calls
- Claims reviews with corporate and claims adjustors.
- Attend conferences and other meetings that may efficiently benefit safety performance.
Facilities
- First aid kits- placement, supply, and refill.
- AEDs - placement, upkeep, and monitoring.
- Sharps containers - placement, upkeep, emptying.
- Install signage and rotate posters and banners.
- Fall Training
- Safety Suggestion Box (documentation)
Training
- Provide technical expertise and consultation to management to promote and implement safety-related training programs that drive sustainable, proactive safety conscience behaviors. Develop bi-monthly “Toolbox Talks” to review safety procedures.
- Provide technical expertise and act as a resource in the preparation of training materials. Support employee safety meetings by ensuring that leadership promotes and consistently relays the organization’s values and beliefs regarding a safe working environment.
- Provide safety/environmental training and orientation programs for all employees and maintain training records.
Safety Committee
- Establish and facilitate site Safety Committee meeting.
- Track committee projects and tasks.
Equipment
- Inspect and approve all safety devices.
Other
- Responsible for the monitoring and disposal of all hazardous material.
- Promote environmental and safety awareness.
- Participate in planning in order to provide adequate funding for environmental/safety projects.
- Support company policies in an effort to maintain our endeavor towards continuous improvement.
- On call 24/7 due to designation of “first responder” for the facility- in the event of accidents/injuries, chemical spills, fire, natural disaster, or security threats.
- Biannual Fire Department Inspections (host Fire Department Events)
- Annual tour of facility to workers compensation physicians and physical therapist
