Assistant Director of External Affairs

The Assistant Director of External Affairs is an Assistant General Manager position for the City of Los Angeles. It is an executive level position reporting directly to the Agency Director/General Manager and overseeing a staff of approximately 50 employees.

The position is tasked with devising and advancing advocacy strategies either directly or through the Director/General Manager or other City officials on behalf of LASAN. The successful candidate will foster productive business relationships with the regulatory agencies and other governmental entities and the multiple partner organizations in LASAN’s sectors of interest, be they environmental justice, biodiversity, climate change, brownfields, food rescue, utility, clean water, solid resources, or watershed protection.

Specific duties of this position include: short- and long-term financial planning; budgetary, equipment, and personnel allocations; as well as managing the divisions and working units to meet LASAN goals, legal mandates and changing operational needs. The Assistant Director also provides oversight and guidance to division managers and supervisors on External Affairs activities and often represents LASAN or the City in an official capacity before the Mayor, City Council, Board of Public Works and other governmental and regulatory agencies.
