Communications Coordinator

Serve as the Communications Coordinator within the National Heritage Areas (NHA) Program in the Northeast Regional Office, National Park Service, duty stationed in Philadelphia, PA.

The geographic area of responsibility includes the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and New Jersey. Some
initiatives may include heritage areas in other regions of the country or in the National Office in Washington,D.C.

The intern will work closely with partnership organizations in an effort to conserve natural, cultural and historic resources. As Communications Coordinator, the intern assists with:
  • preparing communication materials including newsletters, reports, web sites, and briefing books for the NHA program in the Northeast Region;
  • preparing draft correspondence and other written materials to higher level service and departmental officials and to interested agencies, citizens, and elected officials; the writing and overall preparation of study reports and plans as they arise;
  • providing support to other team members such as historians, architects, landscape architects, and planners, as well as NPS Park contacts; and Superintendents;
  • formulating and making recommendations for approaches, procedures, and methodologies for heritage area communication issues; the review, analysis and recommendation of solutions to problems that are of moderate difficulty and complexity associated with communications and technical assistance needs related to the NHA program;
  • organizing and conducting public meetings and facilitate workshops and program initiatives that provide insight into resource protection;
  • maintaining effective relationships with various groups and agencies involved in, or having interests in, the NHA program.

Benefits:
Housing Allowance - $800/month
Living Allowance - $215/week
