ROLE SYNOPSIS
As an Upstream Digital Data Management / Data Science Graduate on the Challenge Programme you will provide technical data management/science support to an Upstream team or region. You will work closely with the SIM/dataWorx Manager to deliver Data Management operations and with Global Domain Leads supporting the delivery of the Data Strategy, focusing on implementing data science techniques and methodologies.

Efficient operational support for Subsurface and regional teams
• Providing specialist support in one or more specific data domains or areas of expertise (i.e. Exploration, Geophysics, Geology, Geospatial, Reservoir,
Production, Data Science, Physical Data, Data Science, Information and Knowledge Management etc.)
• Providing data, information management and technical workflow support to business teams, or a region using core subsurface and mapping applications
• Gathering knowledge and authoritatively handling the business workflow products
• Loading, leading and providing quality control for subsurface, upstream structured and unstructured data types, to project and master data stores and within third party technical applications
• Building high quality workflow products for a team or region, such as maps, cross-sections, technical documents, presentations, reports etc.
• Reformatting digital data using data science; scripting and tools
• Analysing, modelling or mapping subsurface or upstream data using technical applications, analytical tools and technologies
• Facilitating the transfer and management of physical and digital data with third parties, partners, contractors and regulatory authorities
• Actively using analytical tools and technologies e.g. Spotfire, Excel, Matlab, Python, SQL, R, Relational databases etc., and seeing opportunities for their use
Better access to trusted information and data
• Performing data clean-up and improvement initiatives within master and project databases and systems of record
• Systematically collecting knowledge and recording accurate metadata information within project or master databases
• Supervising user access to data stores and repositories
• Rigorously applying industry and data management principles and fundamentals

Geospatial Subsurface Information Management: Includes the above description with the following Knowledge & Skills:
• Ability to handle geospatial data across file systems and SDE on Oracle to deliver geospatial data products and services in both desktop/web-based applications and hard copy format
• Working knowledge of cartography as applied in both digital and paper products
• Working knowledge of Geodesy with specific reference to coordinate reference systems and geodetic transformations
• Introductory knowledge of ESRI platform (Desktop, Server, SDE) and other applicable Geospatial tools such as FME, Blue Marble, Spotfire, etc
Process and Standards
• Ensuring that Global data processes, standards & workflows are followed
• Complying with information and records management standards and procedures
Communication and Engagement
• Delivering an efficient and effective service to a business team or region
• Regularly communicating with professionals within the Upstream, Geoscience, Engineering and IT&S disciplines as required
• Communicating with external parties, partners, contractors and regulatory authorities
• Actively participating in relevant Community of Practice (CoPs) and Communities of Interest (CoIs)
• Communicating and promoting the purpose and benefits of information and data management within Upstream and Subsurface

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
• Must have cumulative and major GPA of 3.2 or higher
• Good understanding of statistical and physics based mathematical modelling techniques - e.g. time series analysis, regression models and various estimation techniques.
• On a case-by-case basis, BP will support US Immigration sponsorship for full-time or long-term employment
• Graduating in May 2020, or anytime in 2019, 2018, or 2017
Preferred Requirements
• Seeking a Masters or PhD degree
• Majoring in Earth Sciences, Geology, Geophysics, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Data Analytics Petroleum Engineering, or other closely related discipline
• Scientific programming skills, including C, C++, Fortran, and MPI
• Experience in designing and developing physics based and statistical models

SEGMENT
The Upstream segment is responsible for our activities in oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production, as well as midstream transportation, storage and processing. We also market and trade natural gas, including liquefied natural gas, power and natural gas liquids.
We deliver our exploration, development and production activities through five global technical and operating functions:
• The exploration function is responsible for renewing our resource base through access, exploration and appraisal, while the reservoir development function is responsible for the stewardship of our resource portfolio over the life of each field.
• The global wells organization and the global projects organization are responsible for the safe, reliable and compliant execution of wells (drilling and completions) and major projects.
• The global operations organization is responsible for safe, reliable and compliant operations, including upstream production assets and midstream transportation and processing activities.
We optimize and integrate the delivery of these activities across 12 regions, with support provided by global functions in specialist areas of expertise: technology, finance, procurement and supply chain, human resources and information technology.
