Brief Description of Internship Position: 

The office of Labor Relations oversees the labor relations process for the Commonwealth’s Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) and its six agencies (DEP, DCR, DPU, ENE, DFG, AGR). The selected intern(s) will assist the Labor Relations Office and work directly with the Labor Relations Specialist to create, organize, and set-up a new electronic database to assist in organizing and storing documents in either a web based application or SharePoint environment, utilizing a desktop scanner. Cull folders and scan “final” documents from labor relations disputes such as dispositions, agreements, and decisions into the newly created database. Scanned documents will include settlement agreements from union grievances, arbitration decisions, and Department of Labor (DLR) and Civil Service Commission (CSC) decisions, and notices from administrative hearings and agency investigations.

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel spreadsheets and data sorting
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, scanning procedures and data entry
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team participant
  • Ability to gather information and show attention to detail
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and completeness of work.
  • Familiarity with paper filing systems may be helpful

Hours per week:

This internship is offered from May/June to August (dates are flexible).
Hours are also flexible with a minimum of 20 hours per week and up to 30 hours per week.

Other relevant information: 

This internship provides the opportunity to gain professional experience in a government office environment and acquire new knowledge and skills through on-the-job and self-directed learning.

The intern will complete a concrete project that they can use for their resume and receive a professional reference, if desired, relative to their job performance.

Develop familiarity with the various agencies and public sector unions within EOEEA and the grievance process. Opportunity to attend administrative labor relations hearings, for those interested.

This is also an opportunity to learn about and work with SharePoint, an application that allows for central data input and storage. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, as it helps groups of people (work teams) share information and work together on a single document.
